The source of Motoyu Ishiya hot spring contains plant-derived organic substances, sodium bicarbonate and natural moisturizing ingredients as it is gushing out through layers of lignite which was made from reed and other native plants accumulated deep in the ground over the ages.
The water is characteristic of its amber-color and mild to the skin. It is also known as “Bihada-no-yu”, the hot spring for smooth skin.

The history of Fukatani hot spring
Boasting a 1200-year history, Fukatani hot spring has a lot of legends.
The hot spring was found under the Great Buddha’s guidance.
The hot spring was found under the Great Buddha’s guidance. According to a legend Fukatani hot spring was found by the high priest Gyogi known as the erection of the Great Buddha of Todaiji temple in Nara period. We still worship cordially Yakushi-Rurikoh-nyorai whom Gyogi worshiped as a deity when he found a hot spring.
Celebrated hot spring that had cured an injury of Musashi Miyamoto
Musashi Miyamoto whose name is well known as the great swordsman. When he visited Mirokunawate on his training tour, he sacrificed himself to destroy a violent baboon which had bothered villagers. Then he soaked himself in Fukatani hot spring to cure his injury. The heroic episode of destroying an “Ape god”
Those who don’t put up the property are also allowed to take a bath between noon and 3:00pm. Shampoo and soap are provided. Bring towels.
